View Full Version : Question about how films are rated...

How exactly do users rate the film? I am sure there is an obvious answer for this, but I don't see one? Haha. Also, will we be able to see where our films stands out of all the entries? Like what place we are in?

The rating system is pretty straight forward. Once the viewing page is up you get to rate each film from a 1-10 star scale. Each film gets its own rating so you don't really have to pick one over another. You can change your rating of a film anytime you want until the end of the fest.
As for seeing where you placed. The top 3 get shown but the rest you have to PM one of the admins and they will tell you via PM where you placed, how many people rated your film, and how they rated it.
This is what they did for the last few fest unless they change the process for this fest.

This is what they did for the last few fest unless they change the process for this fest.To add to this... the second round consists of a short list of finalists. Usually a top 8 or so. Then the second round of voting begins.
From the finalists the top 3 are chosen.

pretty much what mjjason said...
The current system is all about ratings.... so films stand on their own two feet and it doesn't matter near as much who viewed what other films, etc... and you don't have to pick one film over the other.
Just watch it, and give it a 1-10 star rating based on how good you thought it was. You could have 30 films rated a 7.
The top films (may be 7, 8, 10, 12.... wherever there is a pretty clear breaking point) will likely be announced as the finalists and we will try to amp up publicity and hold another round of voting. All votes from the first round will be carried over to the 2nd round, and only new votes will be accepted.
After it is all said and done, we will announce the top 3, and give some additional acknowledgments as well.
Beyond that, (so as not to potentially embarrass anyone unnecessarily, you may pm me when the fest is over and I will provide you with your overall average rating, as well as where your film stood from 1 to however many films there end up being

Hey, Jason! Just a thought... how about sending out a mass email to all the Members announcing the opening of the first round this Fest?
Maybe wait until launch day and then send out the announcement.
That way they call all get more feedback.

I'm planning on it :)
As soon as I know exactly when the films will go live, I will send out a site wide email. To everyone who allows emails from admins :)

Does anyone know how I can check my status to see if I am eligible to vote this time around? I registered before the last fest, but I'm sure I haven't posted 50 times yet. Thanks in advance.

You only have 6 posts so I would say no.
Unless they add a new wrinkle to allow members that have been around for X amount of time to vote regardless of post count.
Don't forget, if you made a film in this fest you can vote, regardless of post count.

that was a consideration, but I guess it never got incorporated.
once I've actually slept and can think a little more clearly, I'll examine the state of the rules... but, the chances of changing a rule involving voter qualification right as the films are about to go live are slim to none.
Definitely will re-look at this for the next fest though.
Just so you know, with some things planned in the future, post minimums may go away entirely for a number of reasons that I won't go into now.
Current rule is 50 posts, or be a submitting filmmaker. you can have zero posts, but if you entered a film in the fest (the submitting filmmaker only) you are eligible to vote. Otherwise, have to have 50.

So 50 posts or be a filmmaker... does filmmaker mean only the one who directed & submitted the film? what about others involved in the films... like other producers and DP... or maybe co-director? maybe actors? to get this privilege when the film gets submitted? sorry... this is my first fest that's why I asked...

Otherwise a bunch of "friends" could sign up and state that they worked on your film and then vote. I'm not saying that you would pull such a move, but that's probably why they limit it to the filmmaker and/or 50 votes.

Thanks, that makes sense... I was telling my crew so but since it's my first fest too and I wasn't very sure, so I thought I asked :-)
any guesses when the viewing will start this time?

can't give an accurate guesstimate yet, but it will be sooner rather than later, barring anything crazy happening.
Maybe tonight. hopefully tomorrow at the latest... but can't say for sure yet when it might be. too soon.

Films may be entered in other festivals as long as they aren’t screened prior to March 13, 2009.I'm guessing the 13th at the latest.
It usually depends on how long it takes then to sort through all the films, upload them, etc...
I'm wishing for tonight though! :Drogar-Love(DBG):
But probably not...

Already got our hopes up, haha. Definitely would be awesome to have it up and ready to go tonight. If not, I'm sure we can hold on.
