New to the DVX site & going to try and make a LOSSFEST film before Monday's deadline.
I was wondering if anyone could point me to a thread about poster size (size limit/restrictions etc...) or chime in with that info. I could not find any info about that in several searches (just the upload info in the FAQs).
Thanks

Click the search tab and type "posters" there are quite a few threads on it. There are a few members here that do them well and make them for a lot of us as well. Welcome to the jungle. It's a great place to be.

Not finding anything specific to image size for posters specifically, I would default to the upload limit- Individual File Max. Size : 1.05 MB . Make it as big as you want, as long as the file size is acceptable.

I scale mine for the boards down to 450x666. For the festivals, and according to the final output they start at 10"x14.8" 300dpi. This size usually ensures a good print on 11"x17" paper at Kinkos. Good for bulk prints. Any larger and they start to charge by the square foot.
Depends on the final output of course, but starting at 10"x14.8" and designing for that size ensure you get good details and nice crisp fonts. Scaling down is a cinch... just make sure to keep the original file as a copy.

Out of curiousity, do you have to have a poster let alone a thread to be allowed to enter Lossfest? I ask because like Happy Haole, I'm a first time entrant and I see everyone else doing it, so it feels like I should be too... but I am also one of those cats that likes to swim upstream, that and I have no real talent with photoshop. I prefer after effects =P

from the submission rules:
How To Submit
Create an h.264 compressed file, 50MB or less.
Name the file as follows: <DVXuser_name>_<film_name>.mov (e.g. LarryR_MyTimeFestFilm.mov).
<Optional> Create a poster - preferably a PNG or JPG file, named the same as the film.
Point your browser to: http://www.dvxfest.com/upload (http://www.dvxfest.com/upload)
Fill out the form.
There are two file fields, one for the film (required) and one for the poster (optional).
Click "Begin Upload".

You don;t need a thread, or a poster, but it helps to get feedback for your film and introduce yourself to the community. Otherwise you're an anonymous poster and we'll all be wondering just who are you anyway....
I know when I vote I like to give feedback almost immediately and I've been thrown off a couple of times when an entry didn't have a thread. Slight annoyance especially when sometimes you just wanna say how you enjoyed the film or even ask a question.
And these questions and feedback... they help a hell of a lot.

I feel like uh dir... I was too busy looking at the lossfest rules that I didn't bother checking out the upload section... *sigh, n00blet stuff I guess.
I'll make a thread in a day or so (or in a few minutes depending). And you're right puckthemad, this site really is like a workshop class that never lets out and how else are you going to reap the benefits unless you make an avenue to hear/experience the thoughts of others... wha?
At least I don't have to worry about a poster... And thanks Preston for making my GPA drop so much lower.

Thanks everyone.
I was searching (all last night) for info about POSTER size (restrictions, limits) as well as some Photoshop hints/tips, with the final output merely being for a Fest thread (banner too).....as I DO NOT see myself printing it out (Puck the Mad thank you for that info, in case I ever do want to.....and BTW your posters are amazing!)
There are so many fantastic posters....can anyone (or does anyone) want to share the 'nuts & bolts' knowledge. I am not very skilled in PS, and barely know my way around. And as you can see by my poster attempt (in my thread) that it's a little small. Any help with resizing would be much appreciated.
Thanks again
PS. OK, now it's time to go make a film.
