I want to use a cross dissolve transition in After Effects CS3, but didn't find one under stock transitions. Is it possible to create a 2 sec. cross dissolve and save it as a preset? How is this accomplished?

Thanks!

-Drop both pieces of footage in a comp, each will be its own layer.
-use the opacity property, tweening, and keyframes to make a cross dissolve to your liking
-highlight all the keyframe markers on both layers
-go to menu - Animation/Save Animation Preset, give it a name.

in the future you can use this preset by highlighting any two layers in a comp, parking your playhead where you want the transition to start, and applying the preset.

Optionally, you could use some code on the opacity property to make a more numeric fade out and fade in, use some sliders on a null to park your properties (fadeSpeedA, fadeSpeedB, or whatever). But this is more advanced stuff.

PS - just saw a sticky in this forum called "AE Presets" - I'm guessing you should look there.

Thanks a million for all the helpful info! Will check out the AE Presets sticky as well.
