Hey folks

New user here, pardon all my questions. I was told by the folks who sold me the camera to only use class 6 cards for PH mode. But the manual says class 4 is fine.

What's the real world experience between class 4 and 6?

Cheers

John

I have a 32g Class 4 card that I use, no problems so far. Someone else (I believe them to be reliable) had posted that he has been getting reports of dropped frames with 32g class 4 cards, but I haven't experienced any problems. Class 6 is supposed to transfer faster, but I haven't been able to tell any real difference.

Class 4 is fine. Class 6 may transfer to your computer faster, but Class 4 is fast enough to record PH mode in all its variations.

Thanks folks, I'll torture test a couple of Class 4s before I shoot anything serious.

What do you think about the wisdom of using 8GB rather than 32GB. I've always felt it's better to put my digital "eggs" in smaller digital "baskets". That way, if a card fails, I lose a smaller percentage of the material I've shot.

Are there any downsides to SDHC cards that would warrant splitting up shoots on to smaller cards rather than bigger cards.

Cheers

Put me down as a happy class 4 user.

It's up to you and how you shoot.
I'm very happy with the 90 minutes I get form my 16 gig class 4 cards. I guess I could use 8 gig cards but I like my 16's best.
I cannot for the life of me find anything close to 90 minutes to shoot however there are those who have a need and the 32 gig cards serve them well.

Take that P2!!!:Drogar-Love(DBG):

As long as you don't need to shoot longer clips than what an 8g card will hold, that's fine. One of the benefits of the solid state media is how much faster you can change a card and get rolling again in comparison to tape. In addition, the cards are much smaller than tape so you can carry a number of them with you without even noticing. So 8g cards are just fine for most uses in my opinion.

On the other hand, SDHC cards are proving to be quite reliable.

I am new to recording on SDHC and to the HMC151E which is what it is called in 50hz land. Before my class 4 cards arrived I had a class 2 kicking around it dropped frames (one frame with green artifacts) randomly when recording HG mode. I subsequently reformatted it again in the camera and now it doesn't do it. My class 4 8gb arrived same problem on PH mode. Will try reformatting them and report back!

Any problems I had with dropped frames disappeared once I had reformatted the SDHC cards a couple of times. Maybe someone who understands this type of media could comment? I am using Sandisk 8gb class 4
