I spoke on P2 work flow at postproduction world last year, but the economy dictates I stay back and work on making money, not spending it.

I dont think there will enough new products at NAB this year to warrant my interest and expense. There's a major and troubling new trend happening where banks are shutting down credit cards (not just credit lines) by jacking up the interest rates to almost 20 percent. Its a sign of their desperation and capitalization worries.

If this continues commerce will become even more paralyzed than it is now and the manufacturers who are foolish enough to spend capital to rush new products will only be endangering their own bottom line.

This is probably common knowledge, but I thought I'd spell it out that you shouldn't be buying any major purchases on credit card because you will probably get screwed bad.

I'll be there, it's my first time.

I usually go to cinegear every year, but I'm trading in that option for NAB this year.

It'll be my first too.

In response to "there will be no new products", there is a broader reason to go, to network. If you go and don't meet people, you are doing yourself a disservice. You could create a business relationship that could mean untold dollars. It's also good for a creative boost. Something there just might trigger a "Hey! I could do..." moment.

So, I hope a lot of people do go and I hope I get to meet some of you.

I'm on http://twitter.com/quintessential if you want to meet up.

I'll also be at the FCPUG SuperMeet (probably filming), if you want to meet there.

I'll be there from Sunday through Wed. It would be cool to hit up a DVX user meet up. Even though I'm terrible at posting here (I read it all the time though) I would enjoy it. Oh, and I'm following http://twitter.com/NABtweetup if that's where the organizing will happen.

I heartily agree! As much as I dig playing with all the new toys, I really value meeting up with people. Yeah, there's the potential for new and continued business relationships, but, I genuinely enjoy spending time with my colleagues (some of which are true friends). :)

Mikko,

What about transpo from circus to NAB? Walking distance, shuttle, or cab/car?

Michael Horton
03-24-2009, 01:22 AM
You can walk from Circus Circus. Its a bit of a hike but nothing that will kill you. Taxi is a short hop. But traffic is usually so bad taxi has hard time dropping you off without you spending more money just waiting in traffic to be dropped off.

Hey - This is my 4th straight year going and I will be there Sunday - Thursday. Noticed that everyone wants to meet up but no one has set a place/time. I will be glad to set this up for everyone if you are interested as I have the place mapped out- I would suggest at night after 7 to give everyone a chance to refresh after the long day.

Just let me know if no one has set up a location yet and i will do the work for us -
Cheers,
Brian

P.S. here is the map of the tram which is very fast and cheap transportation in town http://www.vegas.com/transportation/monorails.html

Well be sure to drop by Pana. Jan tells me theyll be running some of my footage shot on the 500 on the rolling demo (I guess thats what you call it). Easy to identify, its shot in Japan. So whilst I wont be there, some of my shots will :P

Cinevate will be there in our own space C8742. Most of the crowd in the booth will be from Stillmotion, but we've confirmed Kevin Shahinian, Ray Roman (ex marine/cop turned wedding guy!) and a few other well known shooters will be helping out.

We've got 6 brand new products (never seen before) debuting there, a very cool booth design which we built/machined in-house, catalogs which contain a 10% discount code, and if that's not enough, Zeiss has confirmed that we'll have a world exclusive on a completely cool new product from them.

If nothing else, drop by and say hi :-)

Hey Dennis,

This is Randy from the SM workshop. Slight chance I might make it out. If I do, I'll be sure to drop by and say hi and also check out those new top secret toys I hear the boys got. The crew gonna head the booth the length of the convention or you guys gonna have shifts?

We have 10 DVX users signed up to the meeting here - http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=167316

if yo haven't signed up yet pm me and we will get you in.

See you there!

Randy, shifts for sure. Patrick should be around daily from 11-2 with Konrad, Michael, Jessica, Casey, Ray rotating through. Kevin Shahinian (cover of EventDV magazine, Bollywood theme wedding) will be there most of Wednesday debuting some very cool BTS stuff from his latest work. As far as the Cinevate crew, we'll be there most of the time with a few breaks daily for scheduled meetings.

On the topic of top secret toys, there's four of the six that we're debuting that even SM haven't seen yet :-)

Former marine...I stand corrected. We're pretty interested to see what Ray came up with in terms of the promotional piece he was working on. BTS shots featured a Brazilian "super-model" draped over some of our gear :-)

Noel, you'll fall over when you see how good the HPX500 footage looks coming from our adapter and B4 relay lens. I haven't been this excited about a camera/adapter combination in a long time. We had a bit of scare there as the HPX500 and another product launch item went on a merry adventure across the country today....an unplanned vacation compliments of Westjet. I nearly cried in the airport.

Cheers,
Dennis.
