Hi guys I am a proud owner of the blade, unfortunatly my XH-a1 monitor become very hard to see how in focus an object is, so I have swit monitor 8" which is great at looking at things on a grander scale. However, when on the move its a bit heavy and also a bit intrusive when Im filming people on the streets asking questions. Anyone know if anyone does like a 4" monitor that will give me the bigger vision of focus yet is super light to carry on filming on the streets over shoulder? :dankk2:
What do other people use? Just the lc on the camera?

If you have time to focus your shot before filming, the magnify function works well for dialing in the focus. Unfortunately it only works when the camera is not recording. I tried using the peak function, but I just can't seem to get the hang of exactly what peak in focus looks like.
External monitor is the best way to go.

believe me, swit is not heavy :) you don't want to touch panasonic bh-lh80 then... and for
focusing you need something similar size and high definition, 4 inches won't do it.

The new monitors from Marshall look interesting. Apparently they include a couple of filters for helping set exposure(false color) and focus (peaking in red). They have component, HDMI and SDI versions and only weigh 1.3lbs without batteries.

Anyone had a chance to see these in person?

$1300 for 840x480 resolution? That seems pretty steep, and I've heard that 840x480 is not good enough for 35mm adapter work.

I saw the new Marshall and the picture quality looked better than the older one though i didn't spend time evaluating it. They had some work to do on the color system for evaluating exposure though. They completely missed where proper exposure should be set 60 - 70 IRE. As I recall they had it set too low, though at first they thought it was set for 80% then they found another chart while I was complaining to them and I think that was 55% or something. The sales people frankly didn't have a clue.
They were really interested in my feedback though and wanted to get it right. Actually now I recall they wanted their engineers to talk to me, so maybe I should find that phone number and call them back. They may have straightened it out. You might check out Nebtek too.

If they work out those kinks, thats a fantastic package. HDSDI, Component, False Color (one of THE most used features on RED cameras), loop through, framing markers, 4 user buttons, pixel to pixel, and powered by panasonic batteries...thats a steal for $1399 (and possibly $1299 street). All in a package weighing only 1.3lbs. Sign me up. Im fed up with Totevision and other products costing twice as much. I love my LH series but the V Doublers are a pain and they're all extremely heavy.

Yeh, i signed up for their mailing list ages ago and i recently got this email, so it looks like its going somewhere now:
Hi Everyone,
I reluctantly say this is the first official email sent to the SmallHD.com mailing list... which you are on... so here we go...
UPDATE:
As many of you know, our website has not changed a single bit since June of 2008. We admit that makes us look like a bunch of slackers... but this neglect is mainly because we've been pouring all of our energy into creating a new product that is far superior to the "XII" showcased on the current site.
As of now, a splash screen has been put up indicating that a new site will go live in the near future, which will reveal everything about the product we've been working so hard on: the "DP1". With subject to some variation, the DP1 will boast the following basic specs:
1) 1280x768 native resolution
2) 8.9" diagonal screen
3) 179 degree viewing angle
4) LED Backlight: 300 nits (brightness)
5) Less than 1.5lbs
6) Dimensions less than 9"x5.5"x1.1"
7) Housing Milled from a Single Block of Aluminum.
We are unable to give out an exact date for the website or product launch at the moment, but from this point forward, we will update you through this mailing list as that time comes closer and closer. As of now, we have successfully created a functioning prototype of the DP1 from plastic. The aluminum versions of the housing are in the works. Being that the LCD display we are using in this product is cutting edge, there are still some programming issues we are working out with our circuit board supplier overseas, and those will be cleared up in the next 3 weeks.
We really appreciate your continued interest in the products we will soon be offering at SmallHD.com. We sincerely apologize for the delays we have incurred, but we assure you that no time is being wasted. We will not release the DP1 (or any product) until it is up to our standards, and every extra day is spent perfecting this new device so that once it is made available, it will be well worth the wait.
Thanks again... You'll hear from us soon...

Some of the guys here have bought Manhattan monitors and say they are happy with them. If they actually deliver on the image quality, and you can find a good mount, and don't mind waiting for it to be shipped then the price can't be beat.

I have one of the earlier prototype smallHD.com monitors but my problem is; I cant find a good mount for it. The monitor has got some heft and I'm afraid to use the shoe mount on my camera.
