Something I was wondering recently...

Being that 1/3" sensors yield a deeper depth of field than their larger brethren, are they actually capable of achieving *better* focus and / or edge-to-edge sharpness on the ground glass of a 35mm adapter, than cameras with 1/2" and 2/3" sized sensors?

No.

Bigger sensors carry more pixels to capture the image data

DOF has nothing to do with focus data.

Best example - 35mm film "captures" more data than 16mm and therefore looks more focued (sharper).

Edge to edge is a lens function especially in the digital realm.

We have found that the bigger the chip, the more issues with e2e and CA - generally more difficult to adapt.

My guess is that with a smaller chip the optics may find it easier to focus on the 35mm frame because it is comparatively larger than the chip itself. As the chip gets closer to the size of the target 35mm frame then the optics are getting into more magnified macrophotography. Probably harder to do. just a guess on my part though.

The EX-1 lens may be hard for that reason or because it has weird optics to begin with since the zoom lens is comparatively small for that chip size.
