I have been out of pocket recently, so I was just wondering when trailers became acceptable for a fest? I am assuming this is a new thing.

Well, trailers that use actual footage from the films are still not allowed. However, there are some people out there who are gluttons for punishment and shoot unique footage that will only be used in the trailer...
Take for instance Puckthemad (his name is quite apt). He has shot footage not only for two different films, but also additional content to create a trailer for each film. Overachievers...
Hope that makes sense.

Ahhh.. ok.. So I guess a compromise was found :
Trailer allowed, but no footage from actual film.
I brought this up because I had mentioned trailers during Love Fest

yes i am a glutton for punishment. i just figured: hmm, have cameras, have actors... have idea... let's shoot something while we have them all together at the same time... made sense to me at the time. now i just don't know what I was thinking.

Same here, my trailer is COMPLETELY separate from my film, just an extra bit used to sort of get people warmed up to my sense of humor. On that note, CHECK IT OUT!!!

Its hard to imagine a trailer for a 6 minute short. I pretty much just want to shoot what I need then get the hell out... and usually what I need is a lot. My cast and crew are a glutton for punishment. Why punish them further?

because actors ARE gluttons for punishment. besides, it's all marketing, so it only helps the films. usually cast and crew can get on board with that.
