Some dolly tracks use this rubber track type stuff:http://www.kesslercrane.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=189&Itemid=82
How would a garden hose work? You could fill it with sand or a similar substance if necessary to keep its structure and shape. Would this work?

I am getting one! haha. We'll see how it works out.
On a side note, I hate like 3 double takes because my name is Jackson Miller.

It does seem foolhardy. Particularly on rubber track.

Hydraulic hoses is good for this stuff. The larger diameter stuff that they use on diggers and big roadworks machinary etc.
Its not too expensive either. Most of them have steel wire running round them and are very strong, and you could ride along then like this quite happly. Failing, that ask the hose supplier to stick a threaded fitting on both ends, then fill it with sand or oil and cap it off and it will be pretty solid.
If your in the UK, theres a good place called Spectrum Hoses in High Wycombe that I use....

Alex did you look at the photo, id the seat gives way, or or the weight of the camera man goes off center and he tips over with the equipment kessler crane is responsible.

i have this setup, the tripod is actually a crane tripod. it is very heavy and rock solid, tipping it would be an effort. also the seat mount is very solid. for the dolly i was actually looking for this kind of setup where its portable enough to be a dolly & a crane tripod. good products overall.
but i guess with any equipment there are many ways to get hurt. i mean one can kill himself working out in the gym. but the terms of sale are probably "once it's in users hands, they are not responsible"

You can use any cheap garden hose when you fill it with fine sand, like sand for bird cages..
It lays out - especialy around curves much better with sand in it.
just make sure you got good plugs at the ends.

Looks can be deceiving. This is actually a very sturdy setup, as unconventional as it may look. The center of gravity of the seat does not go outside of the footprint of the tripod, so you don't have the tipping effect. The fact that the K-Pod is solid aluminum adds to the stability as well.
If you review the seat instructional video on our DVD, on our website, you get a good look at how the seat mounts. It would take a lot of force to shear those pins.
The last thing we would ever want is for someone to get hurt using one of our products, so we pay very close attention to any safety concerns. Thanks!

mmm, wonder how much 100 feet of heavy duty hose filled with sand or oil would weigh......
might also need a permit from the EPA for that.. what if there's a leak or spill ;)

I am not too sure about that specific hose, but rubber dolly hoses can be filled simply with water, as long as they have sealing caps for both ends.
There's another dolly product (made by ?...) where one of the legs has a sort of "swinging arm" that allows for irregularities in the hose's parallel settings, correcting them. But I don't think the camera operator can "ride" on the tripod.

Yes, very much like that. But the brand was not Kessler and the arm was longer.
It used a single hose laid in an U shape.

so in the US (home depot, lowe's type of stuff) what is the best hose to get for a curved dolly track?
