I shot on the HV20 with 24p and uploaded it to my new iMac using iMovie....now i need to know what would be the best setting for everything to export to show on a DVD......

I know iDVD burns dvd's but i think it would be a waste to burn it in large format....i thought there was a better way like export it to desktop as quicktime with ?settings? for the best quality since it is HD and 24p....then after it is saved to desktop then burn it through iDVD....so that it can be played in normal dvd players....
everytime i try to save it with quicktime the settings h.264 and different frame rates and stuff it looks like crap......what settings in quicktime are the best? someone has to know.....
