I need to build a universal device that will allow different sized stunt persons to be seemingly 'hung' by the neck in numerous locations.

There are so many creative, and possibly certifiably insane fabricators on DVXUser, I hope some will share their ideas with me.

I need to have different persons hanging safely, seemingly by the neck, from inches above the ground to nearly two feet above the ground in real rooms that have ceiling heights of 7'6", 8', 8'6" and 9'. The device must be as invisible as possible as many of the shots are not green screened.

I have an idea on adapting my HyperGlide static flying unit, but would appreciate any methods you wonderful people have used, or seen used before. Maybe I need two devices, one from above and one from the floor... Dunno.

Thanks in advance, as this is going to be used for our first feature film this spring.

I would build a combination harness that goes under the clothes, around the legs and arms, and out through the neck of the shirt. Attach the "noose" to this so that it would slide on the hanging rope. It seem like it would be the safest way, and give the illusion of one rope around the neck.

Please seek the help of stunt professionals on this as it's dangerous and it hurts if you're not properly prepared.

THose stunt professionals will probably cost you less and come with the gear that you need.

I did a hanging in my first short, you'll need to have the wire painted out but they've got very thin cable that can hold hundreds of pounds.

Again, I advise you seek the help of a professional stuntie.

I was on a show that had a professional come in and do a hanging about a year and a half ago. He used a harness with leg supports (not sure of the technical name). He ran his cable up through a hole in the ceiling (it was later patched), and tied down to multiple support beams in the attic. The prop rope/noose was dressed over whatever cable he used.

I did a hanging in my western wildfires, it was pretty easy, I mean easy for use, the family of the actor had a hard time at his funeral. lol, actually we used a standard Climbers harness, and hid the line behing the noose rope. I wish we has had the rope a little tighter, as you could see the slack at some angles. but its a pretty straight forward effect. and if you do it correctly no wire removel needed

I ende up using a 32" steel 'T' bar stock parallel with the top of the door frame in a bathroomwith two tubes that horizontally come off the ends perpendicularly with rubber feet that push against the wall above the doorframe. Two diagonally braced 1.5" tubes extended down to the floor from the back of the 'T' bar at a 45 degree angle and then custom horizontal tubes were mounted on small 6" extensions to the far wall with rubber feet on the ends.

The device is universal and by adding different lengths of tubing to the top two wall brace tubes above the door frame you can push the 'T' back into the room, moving the hanging victim up to 6 feet away from the doorway.

We used out Hyperfly vest and hung our stuntman 1' back from the doorway with 1/2" black climbing rope via a dual carabiner rig at the top. By removing a small ladder for each take and pushing slightly, the device worked perfectly for the shots.

I would have added a photo, but was too busy during the shots to grab my camera. Dang! I will post a photo of the set up rig when I get a chance.

Watch STRICKEN in the future and you will see the guy hanging in the background! YAY! :)

I tried to fix my typos in the previous post but when I try to fix it the window for typing goes grey and I can't type in it. Must be something to do with my old Mac.

I want to sincerely thank all for the good advice on this rig. THANKS! It worked flawlessly and made for quick takes... Which is GOOD.
