Okay, so after nomming on my lines over the last few days for my scene in my Chris Curl's DVX Fest entry (which wasn't hard because I wrote them, lol) I am having a problem finding my character's voice.

Now, I know it sounds retarded to say that considering I created the character on paper...but out loud...I don't know what he sounds like. So far, it's just been me acting out the lines, but no character as stepped through me like they usually do. I am not getting lost in someone else. I'm NOT MY CHARACTER.

I've tried it with about 20 different accents. Tried using music to channel something. Even found myself reciting all of my lines as: Norman Bates, Hannibal Lecter, Ledger's Joker, and Jack from The Shining. NOTHING FITS and I only have till Saturday to figure it out.

Any advice other than using a Ouija to allow thespian demons to control me?

No answers from here, mostly questions. Where does he come from? Is there a reason his voice needs to have a different accent or timber/tone from yours? Are you sure you're not just trying to gild the lily? Character is revealed by HOW you play your actions. Sometimes the less you put on the better.

O.K. I'm editing this to add a suggestion. Try finding the right shoes and see where that takes you. Yes, I'm totally serious.

I agree with the Bush monster. All he needs is a catchphrase, and let the action define him by how he reacts to it. Capiche?

Have you really developed your characters backstory? Did you write it down or is it in your head. While reliving your characters memories it helps get into character. Delve deep into what makes him tick, who is he. He will come out of the 'process' of that thought.
