View Full Version : Steadystick Compact or Pro?

I've decided to get a SteadyStick, but I'm wondering: Is there a great advantage to getting the pro model over the compact? The $99 one on DVCreators one appears by price to be the Compact, but the video seems to show a Pro. I've written them to inquire about that, but does anyone here have an idea if the pros to the Pro are significant enough to warrant the price difference? For the moment I'll just be using a HVX200A with a shotgun mic and, occasionally, LitePanels Micro.

Thanks,

Clint

If you must insist on buying such a hokey piece of equipment, atleast do yourself a favor and get it from a common reputable store:

I would suggest avoiding such an odd contraption though and either buying a tripod or at the least a monopod

What an odd thing to say. First, it's not a replacement for a tripod, and I already have one. Second, as more than one person has already pointed out, it's a species of monopod itself. Third, a number of people on the board have already spoken very highly of it, including Barry Green, whom you may know. (If not, and you have an HVX, it's just funny.) Fourth, nobody has indicated that DVCreators is a disreputable store. Guy Cochran contributes to this board, and has even made discounts available to members of this board on the DV Creators store.

So...back to my original question: Can anyone tell me if the SteadyStick Pro is significantly better to make it worth the additional $$?

Thanks again,

Clint

You'll have to forgive me, that was uncalled for. I've been sick today, and probably cruising the forums too much, lol.

No sweat. Hope you're feeling better. So what's this about "cruising the forums too much"? I'm not sure what that is.

But to your question on these items. I looked at both and it appears the big difference is the use of higher quality materials on the pro, and with this comes the ability to support more weight. Also it appears that the pro is more aimed towards shoulder mountable cameras.

This is a pretty old review, but here's someones opinions on it:

B&H has some reviews of the lower end model, and some complaints of the lower quality parts.

Here's a link to a similar question as yours:

The Pro Version uses a lot of the same components except for the baseplate and adds a thicker handle. The $99 Compact handles even an XL2 sized camera just fine, as you can see I demo in the video. We have sold thousands of SteadySticks. It's probably the most popular item on our site. http://www.dvcreators.net/steady-stick/
