It's only like 50F outside and I swear you see less people out cuz we think it's like freezing cold! I didn't go for a walk today, instead I cleaned house cuz it was a lot warmer to do, jeez, what would happen to me if I knew what real cold weather was like?
It's like that tv show the O.C. when the father said, it's cold outside, it's in the 70s!

Yes winter sucks. I cannot even imagine living more north then where I do now. We had 70 degree weather last week and the whole city came alive again, but we are now back in the 30's and it isn't fun. Those nights were it gets down to 22-25ish make me want to cry.

I remember shooting a commercial in LA in November several years ago. It was in upper 50's in the evening. Everyone from the agency, which was from KC, thought it was quite nice. We were all wearing light jackets. The LA folks were all wrapped up in scarves and fleece and downing coffee and cigarettes to stay warm. I would've mocked them, but as the writer I was probably the lowest-paid person on set.

When it's 50 degrees here, it can be crazy cold. Yes, I'm used to cold weather, but the wind in Oklahoma cuts like a knife through your clothing. You might as well not be wearing anything.
When it gets down into the teens, and the wind is "gusting" I try to stay indoors.

I'm from the high elevation of Colorado, (7,544ft) where in the winter sometimes during the day it wouldn't even get above 10 degrees, so being out in LA even on days like this that are 40-50 degrees, I don't mind. :)

I 2nd this.
I grew up where -30C was a common thing and you'd get 40-50cm snow all the time. When I was a kid, I can remember seeing snowbanks on the side of the roads 10-12 feet high.
I'll take snow and cold weather over, Hurricanes, Tornados, Fires, Floods and Earthquakes any day.

You're telling me. I'll never forget last year when I first moved out here from Indiana walking into Whole Foods (I had never heard of WF until then, later I found out this is where the wimpiest of Californians shop, but I shop there now so what does that say about me....ha) I just got off of work and walked in wearing a t-shirt and pants thinking it felt pretty nice out and a lady walks out of the store with a Northface ski/winter jacket, ear warmers, and gloves. I think it was about 55 degrees out after sunset.
And don't get me started on the rain.... as soon as the first drop hits the pavement, everyone on the interstate comes to a screeching halt. You'd think we're having an astroids storm.

Yes, we are wimps, but we are TANNED wimps, thank you very much. At least we can all the Vitamin D we need cuz everyone in California seems to be health minded, they jog, ride their bikes, go for walks, sit out in sun to read, so yes, if it's below 75, it's cold outside.
I'm wimpy. And plus it's rainy today, the only people walking are the hard-core addicts who will run in any weather and yes, there will be a few out there.
By the way, for you people up north, what's a scarf? bawhwahahahahahaha

Tell me about it!! My wife and I almost moved to Idaho for retirement. Have a son that lives up there. We would have been ice cycles. It's weird though. We lived in Denver in the 80's and I remember going outside in a light shirt when it was 38 degrees and being comfortable. Low humidity I guess.

I have to say, it is NOT cold in Southern California!!!!
Even when the temperature on the family farm, where I stayed, hit 32 degrees F, it wasn't that cold either. :)
I do like being on the Farm in Idaho, you can go out in the back yard and shoot an egg with a 22....

The cold in LA seems to 'get in your bones' more than the cold I grew up w/back in the Midwest. Even when I go back for the holidays the cold there feels more 'brisk' than 'numbing' if that makes sense.

I must have lived right by you. For about 3-4 months I woke up every morning to parrots screeching and didn't figure out what they were until one random day I looked up and saw a parrot and was flipping out. I looked around to see if anyone was looking for their lost pet. Later that week I walked by a tree full of them and finally realized that I'm not in Indiana any more and there is such things as wild parrots.

I'm trying to re-adapt to the cold. Just moved to Colorado. It hasn't been bitter cold here, but when you aren't used to it, it kinda sucks. When the wind is blowing, it sucks. When it's cold and snowing, feels oddly nice.
I lived in Alaska from 88 to '92 and like Robbie said, when it got up to 32F it was like a major shift. Felt so warm once you broke that freezing barrier. I remember playing nerf football out in the street in sweatshirt and sweatpants in 19F weather.
But, after 10 years in the deep south, I'm a wuss...

I like the cold because it lets me put on heavy cloths and hide the fact that I'm pretty well out of shape.
But even now, I'm wearing a wool sweater and have a heater going constantly maintaing a decent level but it's not siberia or anything. It's around zero. Camping weather.
And, I had a rabit living under the garage that came out in the mornings and we'd give it bread and what not up until a couple days ago. Now, there's a big fat black cat that's taken over that comes out for food and ducks back in. Mmmm, I'm, well, I hope to see that rabbit again.
Snow wise for you photogs, there's some very interesting formations in the snow banks around here as they melt that I think would be good to take a few shots of. I think if I had a macro is it(?) and a decent cam...
Oh yea, I still look like I'm oh maybe 20-30- 50 yrs old now. Not like you sun burnt prunes in L.A. We'll actually my booze and cigs intake probably puts me back on par, lol.

Actually, one of the reasons I like warm weather is because you have a reason to be outside, and as a side effect you want to be in shape.

It was 60% here in Chicago and people thought it was spring. Today was a 439 degree day and people were pretty happy. Our coldest day was about 30 below 0 with the wind chill. Aside from living in Alaska or one of the poles, until you've been through a Chicago winter you don't know cold. I do have a friend who wants to move out there, she's an actress but also she simply can't take the weather here.

After this January, I've realized that I can handle anything. There were days when I would look at the forecast and say to myself, "Shit, the wind chill is only -15, that's not so bad." There were seriously several days where the wind chill was -40 to -50. It was crazy cold. We're finally getting out of that now, because February has been fairly mild with temps in the 20s and 30s. It seems tropical compared to what we had earlier this year.

Why does everyone not from California have this idea in their minds that everyone in California is fit, tanned and in shape? As a lifelong Californian, I call B.S.
Go to Disneyland or any shopping mall in SoCal and you will see just as many pasty, fat and out of shape people as you do in the South or Midwest. The only fit, tanned people are the actors or wannabees.
Common misconception.

Seriously though, while not everyone in CA is ripped, people here do tend to have healthier, more active lifestyles than people in the South and Midwest.
