Hi all:

I know very little about if the 150 writes it's 1080 24p and 1080 30p signal "over 1080 60i" as the P2 cameras do. Same with 720 24p and 720 30p, I assume both are written to a 720 59.94 stream?

A friend wants to setup a Black Magic Intensity Pro system and asked if I knew if he would be able to use the Intensity to edit 1080 24p footage from the 150 with it. The Intensity only supports 720 59.94 and 1080 59.94, it doesn't seem to support and any lower frame rates like 24p and 30p?

So my question is, if he shoots 1080 24p with the 150, will be able to edit it in FCP with the BMD Intensity Pro?

Thanks for any advice or help. I live in the P2 world and while I know a little about the HMC150 as far as shooting, I have never edited any footage from it.

Best,

Dan

Dan:

720/24p out of the HMC150 is native, not in a 59.94 stream.

I also believe that 1080/24p is native, with a caveat:

Shoots 24 frames a second in the progressive mode.

The video signal will be recorded natively.

However, the external output signal is converted to a 2:3 format, 60 fps interlaced signal.

For 1080 30p, both recording and output the 30-frame-per-second signal is converted to 60-field-per-second interlace.

Basically, PH 1080/24P and PH 720/24P represent native recording

Hope that helps.

So I guess that means if my friend is using the BMD Intensity Pro, he is stuck not shooting 24p. That's too bad.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I've talked to BM's product director about this since the HVX200 first came out. Since then, she has indicated that they are considering this support, but haven't implemented it.

Thanks David:

Good to know. I have been telling my friend, if you are really hot to edit 24p, you have to spend more money and get a card that supports it.

Just out of curiosity, would you know if there are any options for transcoding the 24p AVCHD to a ProRes 422 format that would be 1080 60i? Just curious if there is a workaround?
