HF100 for use with AT897

Hello and thanks for reading,

I'm looking for advice on how to get clean sound from a HF100 using an Audio Technica 897 shotgun mic.

I currently have this kit with the HF100

I've done a little testing so far, but I'm pretty new to sound in general. What I have so far is far from clean, and has a fair amount of hiss.

Would a beachtek adapter be the solution instead of the xlr to mini cable? Or is this going to essentially do the same thing?

Has anyone tried this combo? and if so what advice can you give?

Forgot to mention that I'm using it primarily for "Interview" style shoots, and "man on the street" as well.
