I like the concept and framing of the objects, just lacks depth, IMO. I would maybe add some kickers or fill light behind the bottle to really light up the vodka inside the bottle. A white background would help here a ton. Maybe push them off the background a little for seperation and bring out edges, right now it just looks a little flat.

Thanks Andrew, I think you're right with the kickers behind for fill, I'm thinking maybe a snoot aimed at the wall. This was shot against a black backdrop on which there was a ton of dust and cat hair that I didn't notice while shooting. Here is the original shot with the cat hair and such removed.

I like the dark background. I wonder what it would look like with a bit of a small light shining up through the bottle ... something subtle.

Thanks Larry. This is a real learning curve for me so it's great to get feedback. I think the idea of lighting the bottle from behind / low back is a good one and will be a part of my next setup of this type of shot. I think "subtle" would be the key here, just to illuminate the bottle more. I'm thinking of making a cardboard "crevice tool snoot" if you will, and firing it at the bottle from rear right or left at a low output to see what happens. At the end of the day, learning and having fun is the main concept here:)

Yeh....The conversation about drilling a small hole in the dining room table didn't go well :) so I'm not even going to mention lightning up the furniture load.

Did you explain how a really nice centerpiece would cover the hole? If you've got any old moving boxes they make nice tables to shoot on sometimes and you can cut holes all day long in them with out significant others getting all whiny about the hole in the table.

Actually, all this talk about no space reminded me that there is a thousand square feet of rec room in the basement of this high rise and it rarely gets used. The building manager already said a while back that I could paint one wall as a backdrop. I may just start to utilize this space:) I could get an old fold up card table and drill away!!
