Hi all,

I'll be shooting a few commercials ( PSA's ) soon and I would like to use 720 30p. The broadcast standard here in Suriname is NTSC but chances are the tvspots could also be aired at a Pal region. Im editing in dvcprohd with CS 3.2.
Has anybody had any succes with this format for broadcast .
Most of what I've shot and worked with up to now was at 720 24p and a few testshots at 1080 30p.

Problem:
When I convert a few of the 1080 30p files to dvprohd I get a few skipped frames and If render it out to some other format the skipped frames are still there. No skipped frames in the original avchd files though.
Could this be a a harddrive issue ?
Im going to do some 720 30p shots to test that format out later.
Ive got an external 500 GB sata drive.

I would like to hear from anybody working with 30p no matter what NLE or anybody would like to help a Brother out :)

Thanks,
Everts

I not an expert on the matter but from previous readings I believe 30p to PAL would be your biggest obstacle.

Yes Matt I know but I was wondering if anybody had done somework with 720 30p for broadcast with succes.

I shot some footage just now 720 30p and converted it to dvcprohd imported in premiere, everything seems fine but it plays a bit fast.
I was also wondering why Barry never posted any 720 30p files .
NLE's do seem to have difficulties with this recording mode.

I cant shoot interlace in 720 cause that format doesn't excist ,24p creates some frameblending when exported for SD.

Any tips for 30p ?

I've had some serious issues with 720/30p for some reason... I would do some serious tests firsts just to make sure you can work with it fine before you go through using it for important things.

Hi Thomas ,
I remember the thread you posted a while back.
I pretty much like the " flow " in 30p for broadcast but when you start shooting with a high shutterspeed it just looks like interlaced.
Anyways it looks like 30p is the recording mode to use when you want to shoot for for broadcast and still have that "Film motion/ look "but if NLE' s are having problems with this recording mode ,well its a big bumper at least for me.
I'll do some more testing .

Anybody else :)

I shot all of my stuff for broadcast in 720, 30p with great success. Both P2 and 150 footage on the same timeline.

My final deliverable was NTSC, DVCPRO50. That's kind of a defactor standard as well as DVCPRO25, atleatst in the markets that I deal with locally and some national stuff. I'd say to give that a shot. DVDPRO50 is nice since it's both 4x3 and 16x9 and looks pretty good. The graphics and such holds up nicely.
