I have an SD sequence that contains a mix of HD and SD material. It is currently SD DVCPro50... I'd like to turn it into an HD 1080i.. sequence..
The dilemma..
Copy/Pasting all or changing the sequence setting results in all the footage being still scaled to 720x480... Is there a way to alter this so it is automatically scaled properly...
Tx..

Make a new sequence at your desired setting, and paste your clips. Do not say OK to matching the sequence to the clips. If the clips are scaled, select all and remove attributes>basic motion/scale.

for the BEST quality your better off transcoding your footage to the format first.
(just scaling up in FCP does not give you good results.)

Unfortuately this doesnt work, because sine the sequences is a mixture of various formats.. SD, XDCAM, DCRPro.. Some require scaling, filter(field shift), and distorting.. When you drop clips on a timeline FCP will add these thing by default to make the clip keep its aspect ratio and field dominance.. When I try the paste and select all and remove attributes, all clips except the clips that are of the native sequence format are going to be messed up..

true.. Not necessary for this project, since it's going to SD DVD, and web.. but we wanted to move it to a wide screen format instead of the 3/4.. but it looks like I'm going to have to copy/paste, and then fix (scale, distort, field shift) each clip individually.

scaling & distorting using FCP motion is the fastest way to loose resolution!
you can do batch encodes fairly easy & fast with Compressor
why cut corners?

Unfortunately FCP does not do a good job of scaling images.
If you have After Effects that's a much better tool for the job.
If not, then Compressor might be better, and it can do it as a batch.
You can also try media manager.
As a last resort, you can scale one clip, hit command-C, then highlight all the other clips that need to be scaled and "paste attributes". That will take care of all the clips at once.
