View Full Version : Deep 6'ing static noise in FCP

I'm cutting some interviews in FCP. There are some key moments where the audio is scratchy and full of static.

Is there any way to deep 6 (eliminate) this static and get clean audio?

Or at least reduce it?

Thanks.

SoundtrackPro does a decent job handling some of this. It depends on the nature and durations of the bad audio. There is a clicks/pops reducer in STP. As a matter of fact FCP has one as well somewhere in Audio effects. I like using STP because you can really zoom in to a finite waveform much more efficiently than FCP can handle/allow.

For a buzz, rumble or something constant, try using Reduce Noise in Soundtrack Pro. If you have a slight pop or digital noise that occurs every so often for just a moment, open the audio file in a viewer window, and use the pen tool to set level keyframes. This technique allows you to do sub-frame keyframing, which can be super helpful. Good luck.

I agree with noise reduction ability existing in soundtrack pro. It's very useful and you just have to set a noise print. Find a spot where its as pure static or pop as possible for as long as possible. Also try laying the effect multiple times using different durations for the noise print and different clips. Careful though if you overuse it it will begin to sound robotic. The trick is getting it just to the point of sounding robotic then sweetening it to the point where the audio has a natural tone again.
