just bought an HMC150, I really like it so far, did a small shoot this past weekend, and looking at the footage it's getting this really bad black digital artifacts.
shooting 720/24, to class six transcend sdhc 16gb cards into FCP. so far it's happened twice in about 40 minutes of footage, both times lasting no longer than ~15 frames.

Your hmc is fine, trust me on that one. I have gotten that too. If you are to look at the original footage I can guarantee you will not see it there. (please do that actually, and confirm whether or not I am right)
The resulting artifacts have to do with the transcoding in final cut I believe. Have you tried using Toast 9 or another program to do so as opposed to fcp?

I've had this happen many, many times with the log/transfer process in FC... the file will play back fine from the camera, but have the same artifacts even if you re-log/transfer with FC. Your cards and camera will be fine... but some other process to ingest files (as seen above) may be your answer...
You'll find an example of my weird artifacting here:

Just re-run that clip through the same transcoding process. It will usually work out.
