Is anyone using their 170 with the Chrosziel 450 mattebox for the HVX200? Seems like the tripod mounting holes on the bottom of the HPX are so far off center that my mattebox won't line up. This is especially frustrating given the cost of the Chrosziel. I have a Zacuto baseplate for my Letus rig but prefer to use the lighter Chrosziel plate when not using the Letus. Any ideas?

The mounting holes are indeed quite a bit off center.... I don't think there's much you can do except using a baseplate or matte box that is adjustable. I hope panasonic will fix that in future cameras...

YEah... Zacuto's pretty much the only way to go... unless you want to search out and find a lighter weight baseplate... but I'd say stick with what you have already!

If its a 400 series LWS you can get the 401-420p top plate and swap it out to fit on the 170. The part lists around $150.

The Vocus plate will also fit and I happen to like their MB250 mattebox better than the Chroiziel.

BTW, is there a reason for the holes being of centre on the 170, Jan?

Hi Joseph,
The way we sell it at Panasonic, we sell it with a base plate and a set of rails because we feel you should load up the lens with a lot of weight, which is what happens once you start putting filters into the MB.
It works with either the 200 or the 170.

Never got a clear answer from the factory but have seen enough plates that work so apparently there is enough flexibility in these that for the most part it isn't an issue.

You are right. I ran into this problem recently and was finally able to find a solution. See my thread here:

The key is to find adjustable accessories.
