I got my hmc today, and searching through the whole workflow forum still havent found a way to import my footage into cs3, so thought it would be a good idea to make a topic where everyone explains their methods and techniques to edit avchd.

I have tried using the free mainconcept transcoder, but then can still not import the dvcprohd files into premiere.

I have also tried cineform neo scene, but when I import the converted avi file in premiere when playing back it is just green.

So everyone please help me, and others in the same position, with the workflow in premiere.

And it would be good if this was stickied if it gets going :)

you need to download the 3.2 update CS3 premiere to import dvcprohd.

Ok thanks.

How much quality loss is there converting to dvcprohd?

Ok thanks.

How much quality loss is there converting to dvcprohd?

How do we respond to that?

DVCProHD runs 100 mbps with a 4:2:2 color space.

AVCHD at PH quality runs 24 mbps in a 4:2:0 color space.

Quality loss?

I can clearly see a drop in sharpness when I transcoded AVCHD to DVCPRO-HD.
That's one of the main reasons I got Neo Scene.

How much of a loss I can't say but it was enough for me to change my workflow.

Ok thanks everyone, I think Ill look into neo scene, just the super large file sizes that put me off.

What are you transcoding to rather than DVCProHD that you like better.

the dvc pro converter does not look as good as the raw avchd files. Looks washed out. Easily fixable in the grade but still a question...
