Editing HDV in a SD timeline questions...

I have always edited HDV (Canon XH-A1) in the right timeline and everything works fine. But I had a friend edit his A1 footage in a SD timeline so he could get a close up shot with one camera. I watched playback and it looked pretty good (he uses Premier pro). Thinking about doing this with a one camera project I am just starting to edit. It will be shown/distributed with an SD DVD.

Any known issues with quality? And what timeline specs should I use - DV, DVC Pro 50, Pro Res?

Any thoughts let me know (didn't find info on a search).
