I'm on the verge of purchasing a new camera in the $3,000 range and don't know wether to go with the HMC or the XH A1.

Please give me your opinions and explain why as much as you can.

Big thanks in advance.

Is there a reason why you are double posting?

I've used neither. But by specs HMC150 is better in every way I think. Seems like tapeless alone would be enough to make the choice easy. That aside, AVCHD compression is much less lossy than the XH-A1s HDV. Also, HMC150 can shoot 60p in 720 for slow motion.

Yeah, I went through the same decision. I came upon a dozen or so people who either own both or who used to own the XH-A1 and now own the HMC. Basically the opinion was that the XH is a great camera but the HMC is better. Better workflow, much better in low light. Some liked the look of the XH-A1's image slightly better when lighting was perfect, but anything other than that went hands down to the HMC. Thats why I chose the HMC.

i wonder how many of these threads we are going to have until people start to realize that HMC is better in every single aspect.

Seriously. The first time I heard about the hmc150 my imidiate impression was "oh, panny just destroyed everything in the 3-4 thousand range." I didn't even know anyone thought it was debatable?

They are still out there....

AVCHD > HDV
Tapeless SD > Mini-DV
100 minutes on 16 gig SD > 60 minutes on tape

I'd go with the 150.
