There is a method in After Effects using the Auto-trace function to put a tight matte line around the subject:

I was wondering if anyone knew of any ways/plug-in's to do the same in FCP. Also the current garbage matte is pretty shoddy I'm my book, are there any better Garbage matte plug-in's?

No... I'd been messing around with this in Shake and someone else in Motion, but we never came up with anything quite as elegant as this.

As for FCP - remember, it's an editor first. Keying should always be done elsewhere. Kind of like coffee cup holders in a BMW. Darn-it!! Don't DRINK OR EAT IN MY CAR!!!! (sorry... kids!)

yeah, thanks captain, worth a try anyway. I have done projects with all keying and comping, smooth cam in FCP, and loved the flexibility, but knew it wasn't the best option. but that said, i haven't found a keyer better than FCP standard 'Chroma keyer', i haven't got to grips with Keylight in AFX, and can't find ultimatte for either FCP or AFX. I'm fairly dumbfounded by how keyers don't use more intuition in auto junk matting and recognizing what is green-screen from the start. Is there a way to take an empty plate then tell the computer this all needs to be keyed...
