Most of my footage for a project was shot on HVX200a at 720pn 24 fps. My client is now sending footage that I must use that is DV at 30 fps. Editing in Final cut, on a HD 720 24 fps timeline, what do I need to do so that the DV footage won't be too crappy?

Thanks,
Paul

First you have to determine if "30 fps" means 30p or 60i. If it's 60i, you're in decent shape. If it's 30p, you may have a problem. 30p doesn't do well converted to 24p.

I'm pretty sure t will be 60i. So if it is 60i, how do I transfer before dropping in the FCP timeline?

Thanks,
Paul

depending on the amount of footage, you might consider converting the dv footage to 24 fps first, then depending on the footage and content again, either scale to original or scale up the footage to fit.

How do you convert the DV to 24 fps? Never had to do that before.

can't wait to see the answer to this one! cause I probably would of gotten old school with it, thrown it on a 60 frames per second timeline, chopped it up with the razor blade and removed the duplicate frames! :) I actually need to do this my self. Thanks for posting this question Warrior!

I use this when I need to make 60i work in 24p.

It's a good tool to have. You just put the footage in your 24p timeline, and the filter and adjust the settings accordingly. It will now blend the proper fields and frames together for somewhat smooth playback.

Thanks for the tip...I just purchased Nattress Standards Conversion. What do you do when, after applying the filter, it says "Drop clip in source well to convert." I don't see instructions for this in their PDF.

Thanks,
Paul
