Same here. The colors, detail in the trees, and resolution seem to be exactly the same... Thanks for that David!!

The first one looks warmer and the shadows are darker.
The second one looks cooler but with lighter shadows. Im thinking that this is where the 4:2:2 comes in handy.
Overall it looks like it came from the same camera.
Thanks David.

Great comparison, David!
Will you do a split screen clip of the two?
Even if it doesn´t align perfectly, it can show a lot...

The 150 is on the left and the 170 is on the right.
I can take some additional footage in both and upload those files, but it's an awful big p2 card and SDHC card.

I think they are very similar but I prefer the hmc's image in this particular test.

Looks great. I agree about the 170's blacks being a little more crushed (but I would only notice this with stills and by looking at them for a long time.)
HMC-150 seems like a better deal all the time.

You should have seen it with 72 inches of snow in two weeks.
Alot of fun.
I want to get some footage with both cams of some college basketball.
But just about five seconds of each.
Question is who can host it?
Because I want to get the p2 and mts folders intact.

Wow... I can only notice a difference if I'm fixating on a specific part of the frame, like the shadows on the houses or something. The colors are not really different at all. If it was moving I don't think I'd be able to tell them apart.

I'll host it, send me a PM. I think my original sprinkler footage folder was downloaded over 1000 times!

That is one Wide Lens on the 170! Wow... that has got me thinking.

150 is really wide as well. I don't think there's much difference at all and only when doing something like a greenscreen will the 170 have any substantial advantage, IMHO. The 150 is popping up on "pro" jobs that might have been the domain on the HVX a few years back, and also in lieu of the EX1 which has a bit more of a pricetag.

Actually the 150s HDMI out got me thinking of getting it especially for greenscreen work (in the studio with a MacPro/Intensity setup...)

I can't believe how close these cameras are. I may or may not go with the HPX170 simply because of the better codec, but man this really throws that argument I've heard. A camera is only tool and it really depends on the person and how they use it that can make the real difference.

Spartacus.. YES you are right there. In the studio it's easily compensated. Good call on that.
Carlos, you'd be hard pressed to say the codec is BETTER. I think it allows for slower comps and such, but this codec has advantages as well.. and the end results speak for themselves. With my savings, I could get a faster Mac so that's the major problem solved there.

In a histogram comparison it is clear the HMC150 lost some color detail. However, this snow picture may not have been the best comparison.

I prefer the picture from the HMC150, I can see it is cooler, but I can't tell if there is any difference in the shadow.
