Winter Photography. Avoiding Gray skies.

Any advice on how to avoid monochromatic Winter images?

What filters should I invest in? What tweaks in post should I try to employ?

IR does wonders in winter... but then you're dealing with IR.

We used to use graduated filters on still shoots. Should be able to get something in a nice blue or orange to give you some visual interest. Optionally, you could do a sky replacement in post.
