I was looking to buy a canon hv30. Prices are great right now, but they are going back up as the hv40 will be phased in soon.
Does anyone know anything about hv40 pricing? It seems to me I read somewhere that it may actually be lower than the hv30? I'm trying to decide whether to wait for an hv40 or to buy an hv30 now.

Canon hv30 ordered tonight, $615 from overstock.com, with an additional 10% from an online coupon. $2.95 shipping
I had the urge to wait, but need one now and prices are likely going to go up for the hv30 and to be more expensive for the hv40 anyway. I also want something that will play my old SD tapes if my GS-150 ever dies for good.
Cheers,

Yeah, I noticed the HV30 prices are starting to move up right now after they had a dive a couple of months ago. I absolutely love mine... as a 2nd camera to my Sony EX1. So I agree, I think you made a good move.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Frankly, I still don't really see a compelling reason to get an HV30 over an HV20 even.

It's downright awesome. The image is great, which is what I wanted.
It's going to take me some time to get used the controls, and I've figured out pretty quickly that camera shake is even more pronounced in HDV than in DV. I need to tweak my workflow habits, and I'm pretty certain my PC hardware is going to frustrate me until I upgrade.
All the cons being listed, have I said the image is great?
I'm really glad I bought the camera - well worth it.
