Ok so i'm gonna build a skater dolly ...the design with 2plybaords sandwhiched 2gther, angled aluminium and rollerblade wheels. My question to those who have built this kind already is, do u guys stand on it (provided it is large enough) and does it suport ur wieght well ie smooth movement and sturdiness

I ask because it from just looking on it, in my head i;m thinking it may be difficult pushing the dolly and standing pretty awkawrdly to not be in the way of the platform, and concentrating on camera stuff. it wud be much better if i cud stand on it and let some1 push.

Any feedback wud help.

Also how do u push it without a handle? i've seen many with no handle...just push the tripod?

Skater dollys are usualy pretty small. ive used top of the range P+S skaters, and they are small, would fit in a 2x2ft square. A skater is usualy used on a table top or directly on the floor for a low shot, they are not really designed for standing on. You need a bigger dolly for that...

but why would you want to stand on that thing? if that's your goal, build or buy a doorway dolly with pneumatic wheels....those will support your weight no problem.

I don't have any pictures of mine, but it's somewhat similar to the link you posted. It used skate wheels, with 4 per corner and the base was plywood. Plywood was 2 sheets of 3/4". I've used it several times with the someone riding it. It was probably carrying about 250 pounds with operator and gear.

That's just your basic platform dolly. You can stand on one, but you're not going to be able to keep your balance once the dolly starts moving. A seat pretty much a most.

I built one out of two layers of plywood (glued and screwed together for stiffness), and 16 wheels in four rows equally spaced. It can easily carry myself and an AdvantaJib (probably more than 300 lbs).
