I got a roll of film back and it had a strange artifact on it. Has anyone seen anything like it? Is it flare? Some sort of chemical problem? Something else?
Shot on Kodak Portra 400VC, developed and scanned.

just a flare from shooting into the sun. Did you have a filter over your lens?

Can flare go out like that? In my very humble opinion I don't think it is flare. It's interesting that this just got posted because last evening I was going through some photos from the end of last July in Southern Ohio ... I have one photo, that I thought I'd seen before that has a spherical shape nestled but hovering, between some large boulders. I have a photo from a wedding reception from this past Spring that has a couple of these things up in a corner by the ceiling. In both instances, I discount flare because of lighting and it's direction. I do have some photos with lens flare, both on purpose and accidental. Strange.

It's a UFO...Unidentified film object:) I get lost of weird lights sometimes when my camera is wearing a filter and there are strong light sources in the shot. it's like the light bounces off the lens, onto the filter and is bounced back into the lens again.

No filters, just a stock cheap 50mm lens. The flare was intentional but the weird red wavy line was not expected. In the blowup you can see it has different colors than the other flare.

all the differnt colors mean is that the light was diffracting at different speeds. Filter or not, if you shoot into the sun expect light to get traped in your lens and bounce around.
