I've dumped the "Contents" folder from my p2 cards to an external hd. I can't seem to import all folders (audio, video, voice, clip, icon, proxy) and their mxf and corresponding xml files into Premiere CS4.

Do I need a 3rd party tool to do this?

you should need a 3rd party tool, i did that last week using premier cs4. are you dragging the clips in from the folder or going into the premier options and clicking import?

I was using import and I also tried dragging the contents and just the video folder onto the timeline but neither worked. When I used import, it only imported the audio mxf files...

What's the 3rd party tool I need?

Thanks again!

Did you see the sticky:CS4/P2 Workflow White Paper post above?

Make sure you have updated your CS3 to version 3.1 or later. If you have, the "import" function is all you need, no 3rd party app necessary. Make sure you maintained the complete directory structure of the P2 card and didn't rename anything; it has to be named CONTENTS and have all six folders underneath it with their original names.

I am actually on CS4. I tried to do an import and it's only grabbing audio mxf files and kicks back with an error on the corresponding xml files... I'll try renaming because I did change the name on the CONTENTS folders...

The ftp link to the whitepaper I couldn't get to via Safari 3.0.

Ok renaming seemed to work - but I still get an error when it tries to import the xml files saying "File format not supported". Do I need these xml files for anything or do I just ignore the error?

Thanks!

You don't import those at all. Those are the metadata. They're accessed by right-clicking on a clip and choosing "Properties."
