Hi all. Brand new here and almost didn't make it because I kept putting in 2009 for what year it is.
Oh well, I'm past that now.
By way of background, I've been at this for over 35 years now and still love the simplicity of film. Heck, I love the simplicity of DV. My last fling before I pass the rains over to my daughter is a move to HD. We decided on a HPX500 and a new edit system for Premiere Pro CS4.
Now I still like to think that I am intelligent enough to build up a computer system, but there are times that every web site seems to conspire against me (perhaps it's just old age and its effects on my brain) but I just cannot get enough information for one choice for our system.
I really like the Matrox RT X2 LE card to help speed things along and provide for a real time HD video output but I cannot find anything anywhere about the compatibility with the DVC PRO HD output of the HPX500. Now I know it works with the HVX200 on the 720P DVC PRO HD settings and I believe both cameras record the same information stream to the P2 cards but I'm not sure enough to spend the $1K to find out.
I have found some information that says the Matrox card will not work with DVD PRO HD but then other sources say it works with P2 material. Now my logic tells me that P2 is Panasonic only and that all Panasonic HD is DVC PRO HD. Perhaps you can see my confusion and help me out of this wilderness.
I also found that the HPX500 is not listed as operating under the CS4. The same chart lists the HVX200 as compatible for HD. I'm guessing that the chart is out of date (at least I'm hoping) because I hate to think of the money spent on the CS4 bundle as lost.
So I greet all of you with hat in hand and ask for your help. Our plans are to work in 720P HD probably 60p but who knows. I like the idea of speeding up the work flow and being able to use more video channels in real time. Rendering is a real bore. Also I want the 720p real time HD video output. RGB is fine so the LE should work (I think).
If the Matrox card is a no go, suggestions would be appreciated.
