Correct, DVX batteries do not work. B&H offers the Panasonic 7.2 V 5800 ma battery, it's $165 as I recall but if you shut your LCD you could run it for 4 hours, LCD open around 3.5 hours.

On the upside of new batteries -- it now displays exactly in minutes how much of a charge you have left.

They put something inside the battery that speaks to the camera and i give you a message saying "you cannot use this battery" if its not the correct battery!

i wired up another 7.2v battery to the clip in DC thing and it gave me that message.
Bastards!!!

Next they are going to make the lens a 71.5mm thread so you can only buy panasonic uv filters... :-(

Don't feel bad about the battery. It could be worse. Know what a P2 card is?

yeah, i didn't buy any P2 card cameras no matter how tempting they were.

Haha, ChipG, well said. Any HVX user I've shot with recently has drooled a bit that I spent roughly $210 on 48 GB of memory which would've cost them over $2000.

but of course they are shooting uncompressed to those P2 cards.

how does it compare? the h264 v. the uncompressed?

See for yourself.

Here's the show I referenced in another thread mikeymic-
http://www.spin.com/articles/exclusive-all-star-rockers-cover-beatles

I am the close up shots, from down in the crowd, lower left, with my HMC.

All other cameras are HVX200's.

that's a great comparison. did you help edit? have you seen it on big monitors? have you compared them on waveform/vectorscopes?

now, i assume they didn't roll for 3 hours uncompressed.

I didn't cut it... they are still cutting the rest of the show so I've only seen that online flash video.

Well, the benefit to the HVX, while P2 is expensive, is you have 2 slots and can swap cards, dump, and put it back in, and roll til Christ himself comes back if you wanted to.

They had 3 other HVX's and an assistant running around taking cards and dumping, backing up, and formatting and taking them back to the ops. He didn't have to touch me once all night.

But we're getting off topic on the battery thread. Congrats on your purchase.
