Because I've gotten some conflicting answers from people I trust.
Does the EX-1 shoot 1080p or 1800i (or both)?
One more question, if anyone knows - would you say that the EX-1, due to bigger chip size and (hopefully) true 1080p resolution, look better than the JVC 100/200 series of cameras?

1. Both. EX1 is switchable between, 1980 x1080, 1280 x 720, 1440 x 1080. Frame rate selectable from interlace or progressive - 59.94i, 50i, 29.97p, 25p and native 23.98p. Progressive recording available in1280 x 720 mode
2. By a long way. Amazing picture quality

1080p is always 1920x1080 35Mbps (HQ)
1080i is either 1920x1080 35Mbps (HQ) or 1440x1080 25Mbps (SP)
Select 24/25/30p for 1080p or 50/60i for 1080i
720p is always 1280x720p 35Mbps (HQ) and selectable 24/25/30/50/60fps as well as the overcranking options inbetween (but with no audio and higher data rate).
There is no 1920x1080i 25Mbps or 720p 25Mbps mode for example though.

Whiles I agree about the image quality being better coming out of the EX1 I 'de say always test both cameras you are thinking about in similar conditions to make up your mind. some times a lesser quality image is exactly what you want to saticfy a particular look.
