Has anyone been offlining to save storage space until the final cut is needed at which point it can be re-imported in ProRes HQ? Does FCP 6.0.5 on an Intel machine allow you to do this? What about considering rolling timecode?

I've got over 100 hours of doc footage, so transcoding all footage to ProRes HQ is not possible. I'd rather transcode to a very low bitrate format, edit in that for now, and then later on hope that FCP has come to support AVCHD by then and I can online in the original format. Ideas?

Thanks!

If I was working with that much footage, I'd be offlining for SURE. Maybe in something smaller than SD! Holy cow.

We've been shooting with rolling timecode. Would this present problems for onlining?

When I transcode using Toast 9, I lose metadata of course, so all timecode is reset to 00:00:00:00. I'm concerned that we'll have issues when re-importing original/Pro Res HQ for the online process.

Has anyone had any experience converting this to low quality offline and onlining back in Pro Res with FCP?
