I'm also thinking about having members guest host some fests. Maybe you have an idea and some assets that would be good for a fest and would be interested in overseeing it. If that's something you'de be interested in give a shout out. If there's interest maybe I'll start a new thread for that later on.

Should that not be "end of voting", after all you had me take mine down from vimeo as voting was not finished even though viewing had started!

Also, for those wanting the actual dvxuser font for Photoshop, Illustrator, AE or other, the name of it is 'Eight Track program two'.
I can't provide it here because of copyrights but that's the name of it.

Actually, some of the MTV ones I've seen are VFX based and not motion graphics. An example would be an ariel pan of a city with the logo on the side of a building. Your allowed to submit 3 entries anyways so try different things if you like.
I hope to try one myself but I'm not starting a thread this time until I have something on the move. :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Hi Raptor,
Will there be any specific resolutions required for the finals? Like HD? I'd hate to render as SD and then find out 2k is needed.
Thanks.

Here's some inspiration.
http://www.buck.tv/reel/2008-reel/logo-reel-08 - A reel full of end tags, logo animations, etc. Same idea.
http://umeric.com/#/project/mtv/organic/ - Some super dope MTV idents.
http://motionographer.com/2008/06/17/blacklist-fuse/ - Promos for FUSE by various directors of Blacklist
http://www.capacity.tv/ - Capacity just did a major rebrand for Cartoon Network. Great concept, and lots of great bumpers/etc. Watch the whole reel, you'll really enjoy it.
http://www.weareroyale.com/ - They have a pretty good real with lots of idents, promos, etc
http://d-kitchen.com/ - Lots of good pieces on their site as well

Great idea lads. My personal favorite are the ones on the Sci-Fi Channel. Talk about visual effects, wow indeed.
I thought they were created by the Orphanage, but for some reason, that name does not sound right to me.
Those things kick ass. What a groovin concept.

Hey Gord and Matt just so I'm clear on this. We can make up a logo of our own but we also have to include the Dvxuser logo, right?
I starting to work on my first bumber right now and don't want to work in the wrong direction.
thanks

You can make your own logos for both in any style you like.
The spelling for the CGIFest can be at your discretion, for example CGIF or CGIFest or CGI Fest or whatever.
You can use the original dvxuser logo style and print or your own style.
Spelling wise it could be 'dvxuser' as in the original or dvxuser.com.
The style is being left open to your interpretation that best suits your entry.
Some examples why would be someone doing 3D plastercine based images or fluids simulating text where you want to keep that theme throughout.
You do have to show both logos somewhere in the bumper though although they don't have to be at the same time or the same size. One can be the dominate depending on what your going for.

Important:
The official sounding version:
I regret that due to circumstances beyond my control I will no longer be
able to fullfill my duties as CGIFest master in the manner that it
deserves. I've asked Towerfan, and he's agreed to, act on my behalf to keep
the CGIFest machine running with the same vision and determination with
which it was concieved.
The not-so official sounding version:
Financial woes, 4K of it, what else, so I'll be going off the grid for
awhile. I had to last year for 6 weeks as well so it's not anything new, it'll get
straightend out.
Towerfan will be acting on my behalf in the immediate interim.
And whenever possible, I'll be around to help steer the ship as needed
albeit it may be from a library computer if you know what I mean, haha.
Rest assured it's business as usual fest wise.
Besides, if I had of entered you all would have lost anyways so at least you have a chance to win a few fests now, lol. (Just kidding, for any of those a-rentive types).
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I still have a day to kill around
here so it's time for some beer & some rock'n'roll. :beer:
So be nice to TowerFan as he guides us through these stormy seas...or... ya
know...we'll have to 'shoot-ya'.
-Gord.

Just got the official word, and TowerFan will from here in be carrying the torch as the official fest meister. He has my full support and confidenece and besides, he knows I have 4-80 mm cannons aimed at his front porch if he screws up so consider yourself in good hands. :beer:
Thanks Tower for helping support the cause. On behalf of myself, dvxuser members and future members, I 'd like to say we appreciate you volunteering your time to support this fest and help keep the indie CGIspirit alive. :beer:

Hey guys,
I've been pretty absent as of late. With Gord passing off the torch. I will still be available via PM and email.
My involvement with DVXuser is now limited at best - but since I helped bring this thing back - I will still be available albeit mostly remotely.
Do let me know if there is anything I can do.

It's my pleasure to volunteer for the festing duties. This is by far the best film community on the web and I'm just glad to be a part of it. I'll do my best to keep the fests interesting and fun. Feel free to post or PM with any questions, comments, or suggestions for future fest subjects.
The current fest will continue as normal with no changes. So keep at it!!

I haven't left dvxuser, I just can't run the fest as I explained.
I'm looking forward to whatever entries get in.
I had one going myself but blah blah.
I had 9 ideas, experimented with 3 and focused on 1:
Here's the main idea I was working on at the time:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w289/TheRaptor365/misc/dump0053.jpg
It was further developed but I can't find half my files now.
Other ideas were (from my notes):
=======
1/
Stage curtain opens, CGIFest text characters come runnig out, form a line and bow. A curtain at the back with dvxuser drops
down.
Maybe put up an umbrella
===========
2/ space ship lands on moon, door opens, robots come out with boards,
camera zooms high, they flip boards to reveal dvxuser, flip again for cgifest.
=============
3/ plants
=========
4/ cars
=========
5/ weather ?
=========
6 travel through woods, trees sprout up (billboards) (render in view)
========
7/
blimp
========
dominos
I did this in C4D to great success except for one thing, have each domino have a different dot pattern. I could sequence a
list of objects in the spline but they would be, a*x + b*x
+ c*x ect, which was not random enough.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w289/TheRaptor365/misc/Dominos_6_0013.jpg
Another idea based on the domino effect/roller coaster ride with reflections(untextured ofcourse):
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w289/TheRaptor365/misc/domionos_6_0000.jpg
I've also been writing a couple plugins to allow more RF4,C4D,Boujou and C++ interation so I'm busy with ideas to allow more creativity so I hope to catch up to the fest and offer something new asap, lol.
Man, you guys are tooooo quiet for me. WTH? lol.
oneinfiniteloop
02-09-2009, 02:42 PM
Did you do the dominoes with a cloner object? If so you can use the multishader to add different textures to each domino.
Gord.T
02-13-2009, 03:50 PM
I used the cloner object and the step effector for offsetting the textures. But it disperses the textures over the length as I mentioned. I tried the multishader and it does the same thing.
But it can be done using the COFFEE node in expresso. Basically I would need about 10 textures and iterate through the first ten then start over again, and putting a little c++ in the coffee node will do that. I also have recorded some tutes for setting up the c++ SDK for C4D with VS2008 but aren't pubic yet.
I have a lot to discuss about that end but really the Rules thread is the wrong place.
I'll probably bring up a thread in the 3D section in a couple weeks and see if there's any interest in the subject.
Back to the fest-just a reminder that the top 3 winners get a full year coverage as the lead-ins for the entries and TowerFan is handling the fest details.
//Oh, lol, did anyone notice my 'mouse' from the laptop in my other post was backwards? I was thinking of a real mouse at the time because it was animated. Anyways, kind of funny looking at it now.
oneinfiniteloop
02-14-2009, 07:12 AM
There's a way to randomize the textures using a random effector and the multishader. To keep this thread on subject I'll start a new one in the 3D section with a scenefile on Monday when I get back to my computer.

T-Minus Ten Days and Counting...
It's still on so I hope ya'll are working on your entries. If not there's still time!
Gord.T
02-24-2009, 09:08 PM
I may have something in but it won't be spectacular. I've written some C4D SDk and some RF python scripting to do some new interaction things with mograph/TP particles and RF meshing and such, but crap it's tight. If anything, barring a lack of response to the fest I'll be entering some piece of whatever I hope in the next day or so, more of a demo deal, but, hey, if there is only 3 or less entires I'm guaranteed in , right? .
Everyones shush up? Loop is in right? Josh is in right? Tower maybe? It's not his style but so whatever is cool.
No one one else has a fkin clue in this fest? Can't comment or say fkin nuthin?
6 fkin weeks of dead air in this fest? Theres more pissing in the cafe about what's not great at the academy awards than there is around here about what actually won the god damn thing.
I don't now if you win an academy award for a one minute short, I'd say no, but if you can't do one minute, how can you do 12 mins?
People around here like Cinealma and artists like Kilmyneo can blow away this crap if someone would give them a fkin shot.
Yeah, I went there. Oscar winning shorts for sure but I know, FK, theres people here that can blow away that shi* if you put a good team together and you know it.
Anyways, Oh, off topic again am I ? hahaha. Ummm, I'll try and put in a mograph-RF particle thingy, I swear. I have 3 days right? I can't say anything about the coding I'm doing so, can't say nothing. Ah fk, I need a burger. Get something in if you can. :) :beer:

Hey guys I'm still alive in the cgfest thread :). That scripting sounds awesome Gord!
I hope to have something by Sunday I'm just really really busy looking for full time work and I found out my g/f of 5 years doesn't want me to nor does she want to move to LA right now so now I'm looking for a motion graphics job as oppose to vfx in LA. Ironic motion graphics is the theme lol.
Anyhow hope to get something in!
