Hi. I have an opportunity to purchase a barely used Sony FX1 for a really good price.
I was thinking of using it as a B-Camera to my HVX for shooting weddings.
I realize it only shoots 1081i to HDV, but realistically, for weddings and projects not intended for film-out, how would the images compare?
I have scoured the web and cant find any side by side footage comparisons.
Has anybody used these 2 cameras in 1 project?

Here's my thinking on this:
The FX1 is lighter so it would replace the HVX on my Merlin steadicam shots.
I'm not concerned about the lack of XLR inputs because i capture all audio wireless to the HVX.
And most importantly, Its CHEAP!!
I'm more concerned with how the footage will look cut together on DVD or Blu-Ray projects.

I could pick this camera up for around $1500

Thanks
Lee

We have both cameras in our inventory and used them to shoot a wedding a few months back. Be aware, we shot 720/24pn with the HVX200a and 16:9 SD with the FX1. The images needed to be tweaked, color wise, in post but we were able to get them pretty close. HVX200a image was cleaner but we weren't shooting like for like settings. I have yet to put the FX1 1080i footage up against the 1080i shot on HVX200a but I can only assume the image would be better with the Panny.

If the camera is in great shape with low miles and you don't mind the workflow issues with tape....it might be a good deal.
