i think Keanu is a pretty inspired choice. I don't really like him, but he already has the kung fu training, the deadpan delivery, and if he can pull off the snide, smart ass humor, im game.
and god, mickey rourke would be the perfect jett. he's even got the same voice almost.
the movie is probably going to be awful though, especially if they dont use yoko kanno like the other bebop movie.

Yeah, I like Keanu. Speed was fun, Dracula was awesome even with his less than perfect English accent, and The Matrix is one of my favorite films. Sure he's no Pacino, Nicholson, or De Niro but I don't think he is as bad as everyone makes him out to be. At least not in the final edited films he's been in (take a look at the Dracula special edition's deleted scenes to see a funny Keanu out take that is pretty bad).
The biggest gripe with Keanu is that now he's a bit old for the character of Spike. Ten years ago he would've been perfect. It could still work though as long as they adapt the hair to something more appropriate. If Keanu shows up on screen sporting a big bushy and curly fro I don't think anything else will matter, the film will die right then and there.
Can't argue with Mickey Rourke as Jett. I've also heard people suggest Ron Perlman, which I think would be a good choice as well. I'd say Laurence Fishburne could play Jett, but it might seem weird since he was also Morpheus. Actually Carrie Ann Moss (Trinity) from about ten years ago could've been Faye Valentine. She looks the part at least.
Since I'm referring to Matrix actors I have to say that the Wachowski bros. could absolutely knock this one out of the park if they stuck with Yoko Kanno for the score and actually shot it like they did The Matrix, as a photorealistic action sci-fi piece and not a green screen cartoon film like Speed Racer.
I'm sick of remakes, but this is at least something cool. If done with respect for the source material then it could really work.
