Enough is enough! We have 7 ex3s all trying to sync to a sound devices 702 and the cameras are drifting all over the place! The editors are freaking out I can't figure out what the hells wrong wit these things and could really use some help. Anyone have any advice or experience with this since I can't call sony until monday and we are in the midst of shooting.

Cameras all appear to be drifting at will

no pattern to the drift

cameras drift even when synced together vs sync coming from audio

battery changes don"t effect TC from what we can tell

Running TOD TC and shooting @ 1080 30p DF

Can you tell us the detailed steps and procedures you took in sync-ing the cameras. This would really help us to diagnose your problem.

We have the same problems here.
Before purchasing ex-3 I did a sysc test and everything worked as expected. Bought the cams, attached'em to the same setup and again everything fine.
On the first shooting both cams ran out of sync. Damned.

We are now testing for months with different results. Once they are in sync once they are not.
Setup:
AJA sync generator with trilevel to both ex3s and a leader lv5330.
Timecode from one ex3 out to other in.

adjusted the genlock phases by using the leader sync check.

sdi out stays in sync (thats what leader reports, but internal recording is synched or not.

We tested on a mirror rig, so both pictures of the two cams are the same, layerd them in post with difference applied and you see different asynchronous picture grabbing from shoot to shoot. It might not be realized by shooting slow moving objects, but when you have fast moving objects (or eye lids in close-up interview), or anamorphic surfaces (like high-shutter water) then you see the difference.

For stereoscopic production this is a killer.

Unfortunately noone could help us so far.

with all the tests it seems to be that sony build a time base corrector just before the HD-SDI out, so the signal is in synch for mixing or capturing, but the timing for the chip capturing is not genlocked.

Just out of curiosity, what frame rate are you using?
