As I move closer to making my EX-1 purchase, I need some information about the basic warranty and add-on warranties/service contracts.

Is there an extended Sony warranty above and beyond the basic, out-of-the-box warranty?

I've heard of Mack. What's the consensus as to whether the coverage offered by them is worthwhile?

Thank you for sharing your advice and experience.

Bob, buy your EX1 from a Sony dealership and you will get two years Silver Support, which is brilliant. If your camera breaks down, they will send someone to pick it up at their cost and have it back repaired to you in 7 days or send you a loaned camera until your camera is fixed.

If you buy from the grey market, it is false economy as you don't have Silver support and will be relying on a Mack warrenty ( if you buy one) and that surely won't be as good.

I'll be purchasing from an authorized dealer in the US. They tell me the camera comes with the option to get a three year extended warranty, which actually only adds one year and is non-transferable if I sell the camera.

Is the extended warranty worth it? I know....that's a relative question, but for those that have the camera has the warranty been a sound investment/have you had to use it?
