I've attached a picture of the problem below.

Basically, i shot a 5 day seminar, at 3 hours a day, on two 16gb p2 cards. I would hot swap them as they became full. I'd dump the card to my Laptop with pcmcia slot, and reformat the card per Panasonics P2 reformatting software.

I'm editing to SD, but the raw footage from P2 also has these errors.

They aren't every 10 seconds or anything, but it's an anomally that's popping up every so often, that I have to cut away from when it does.

But, this is all to say:

Has anyone had this problem before or know what's going on??? Or how to fix it???

Best,
Drew.

I had a similar problem fortunately it appeared only once. I know this doesn't help you but thought I'd share that with you any way.
I will remark that this happened a long time ago before the upgrade to the 16GB card firmware so you may need to re install the camera's firm ware. For the time being it seams to me like the error on your existing footage can't be corrected.
Sorry mate.

Looks like you got hit with the "glitch" that happens. Did you do the transfer on a mac? This error comes up most frequently when transferring files from a P2 card to a mac; the errors will not be present in the original footage. Use a file-verification transfer process such as P2CMS , to make sure that the files copy over successfully.

Thanks, I'll try updating the firmware. I haven't done that in a year, do you think it's changed much in a year?

Anybody else with suggestions?

Drew.

Hi Barry,

No, I transferred to a Laptop PC running WinXp Pro, with the Panny software to reformat once transfer is complete... I'd say, that this "glitch" happens every 30-60 seconds, some times every few minutes... but now I'm worried about future shoots with it.... Could it be overheating issues?

:(

I believe that write protecting the P2 card before transferring prevents this. Unless it's more recently proven not to? Barry...?

Barry,

Also, I've recently rid myself of my mobile PC for an MBP with Dual Adapter's express-to-pcmcia converter, is there anything I should be aware of with my new setup?

Drew.

Definitely write-protect the cards before offloading. As for MBP and Duel, many people report it working perfectly, and some say it doesn't. It's supposed to just work; if it doesn't, write in here and some of our expert users should guide you through.
