For your consideration

Take a look at this image, this is straight out of the camera, a Tiff File... there was no gain, everything was manual...

Could anything explain this noise?

It was lit with a half powered 1k Softbox, 650w openface to his right and 250w Flood in front of him

Whoow, try resetting your camera ,was drs on ?
Just post your all your settings. This is how some of my footage looked like a while ago even in broaddaylight.
I had also notice some noise from time to time when I shot darkskinned people under the shades. even light brown to be percise. It looked like it was some GIF 256 colorpallete.
After I'd reset my camera it was gone . I wonder if the Knee on auto had anything to do with it .

You can't reset the whole camera per se, however you can reset each scene file to it's factory default by choosing the particular scene file you want to reset then going into the scene file menu and choosing "LOAD/SAVE/INIT" and sellecting "INITIALIZE"

menu/other functions / menuinit / choose yes. page 83

In some other thread about the hpx170 they called it resetting the camera, or restoring the camera to the factory default settings.

Let us know how it goes Zac.

The one thing that also struck me initially is how dark your image is considering how much light you're pouring onto the subject. This looks more like footage you'd see out of the Sony V1u with this lighting. Are your lights set back a little, as you're going for a dark/moody look? Is the overall footage hot enough and this one section (and frame we see) seemingly dark?

This seems underexposed for that amount of light in which case you will get noise from the 150 or any camera really. Also the background has zero light. If your MP was lowered it may help in this situation as it would drop the background to black making the noise less noticable.

Did you use your zebras? You should be hitting around 70-80 on facial highlights.

That grab looks much better and better exposure.

That second shot is totally fine. By the way, why use the ND filter at all in a closed room with artificial light. This iris should be sufficient, no?

The zebras are really the only way to judge your exposure. Definitely cant rely on the LCD alone.

The second grab seems pretty decent. I'm not sure why you would use an ND inside. I tend to raise the shutter speed, iris and also add filters if I'm looking for a desired look. The ND is such a crude and "strong" feature...

its because the light were so bright and i wanted to keep my shutter speed 1/48
