What are the best render/compression settings you guys have came across so far, feel free to post them here.
I use vegas, i haven't came up with anything great so far.

Render/Compression settings for what? DVD? Streaming? BluRay? You need to be more specific what you're talking about. And also what you've tried and why you aren't happy with it.

sorry, most of my stuff is just being put online, i'll have a dvd being wrapped up in june, so dvd/blueray as well. I've tried to just rendering as .m4v but idk any sites that allow that kind of file to be uploaded.

OK,
For online rendering you'll probably need one of three formats:
1. Flash (which Vegas does not encode)
2. Mpeg4 (Vegas uses Mainconcept AVC/AAC or Sony AVC
3. Windows Media (Sony has Windoes Media (WMV)
There are lots of tutorials all over the web for these, but in general, enter the settings you want (most HD upload sites like Vimeo, Exposure Room, and Youtube want 1280x720 HD files. And you'll want to use a rate of 3-5 Mbps with 720p to make sure it looks clean.
Also, if you shoot 24p you'll create much smaller files, and make things a lot easier to play on the web.

thank you very much, how about blueray/dvd settings?

In Vegas, you have pre-sets for this. DVDs want Mpeg2 so use the Mainconcept Mpeg2 preset (NTSC widescreen) for DVDs. For BluRay, you can use the presets in the Sony AVC codec or create similar ones in the Mainconcept AVC or Windows Media Codecs.

I use Vegas as well. For the best control creating AVC MP4 files I would recommend rendering out of Vegas using a free lossless codec like Lagarith, huffyuv, or ffv1 then doing the final render/encode to AVCHD using x264. I use MeGUI to automate the final render. Megui is cool. If you use x264, you have way more control than the built in tools in Vegas and you can use the AVC high profile settings that would closely match the codec used in the 150.

While Kurtmo is correct about the x264 codec, I found the interface somewhat difficult to navigate. And using the high profile might he useful for creating blurays, but where else are you going to use it? Certainly not for web/streaming.
Also, you can use the x264 codec from inside Vegas, no need to render lossless and jump out to MeGUI or another front end.

How do you do it from within Vegas? That would be nice.
I still like the capability to use megui to mux the video and audio so I can replace one or the other in the final output.

You know, I know I had seen that panel, so I went and checked. It's there, but it wraps mp4 inside an AVI. Sorry about that.

so i tried to export from vegas in .mp4 and the video looks (for lack of better words) like a piece of shit 1CCD camera.

Then you screwed up somewhere. What are your render settings?
