Who exactly do I ask about whether or not my film fits the required elements? To be specific, there are things in my short that will be "at loss" rather than completely lost. How can I tell if this is acceptable or not?

I think he means, there are things that are fitting the theme somewhere in the story/script.

Maybe Larry is away. I've sent him a question last Thursday and haven't heard back.

Maybe Larry is away. I've sent him a question last Thursday and haven't heard back. I'm so desperate and I need a reply...What the hell? Ugh....:(

You sure? :)

Haha, I know, just letting you know. The mods on this site seem to take a while to get back a response, but J.Ramsey is pretty quick. I guess you could ask him?

For those just joining in, I did not write the exact message Robbie is quoting...he's having fun with me :)

Is the question you have for Larry essential to the plot? If not you could ask here.

Well I figured it was a Larry-type question, but here goes...

In my project, some dialog would have movie quotes. I also have one guy making a few imitations of actors/characters. My question is whether this is too close to using copyright material? Note that no copyrighted audio/visuals would be used...only some quotes and/or impersonations.

Apologies to Morox for somewhat hijacking the thread.

Sorry ... I did get your PM, but had some serious matters come up that kept me tied up for a while.

You should not have any problems with your characters quoting/imitating movies/actors as long as it's clear that's what they are doing and you are not passing the dialog/performance off as original material

Thanks a lot Larry, that is good news.

There is zero chance these bits from my project could pass for original material. :)

cheers,
Denis

maybe about to lose it?

How about someone "almost" dying (hence almost "losing" a life) or something as small as "losing their breath" but ties into the story some way or another? I have a whole short planned out, but rather than one big "loss", there are a bunch of more general ties that have to do with "loss."

Yes, this exactly.

Edit: Just sent a message to Larry.

Can anyone else answer my question? I messaged Larry 5 days ago and haven't received a response yet. Time is running out! I need to know if my film will qualify or not.

from the description you gave, you'll be fine.
