I called technical support, but the engineers are not available right now.

I was shooting tonight- the camera was on for about 2 hours straight, and about 45 minutes had been recorded to the p2 cards. I looked down at the screen and the camera was recording. I figured I must have accidentally pressed the record button, but the recording would not stop. When I tried to power down the camera, it wouldn't turn off. I could only get the camera to turn off when I removed the battery.

So, I removed the cards, put the battery back in and the problem persisted. I noticed that I also do not have access to the menu or any of the buttons on the top. The buttons on the side work fine, however.

Changing batteries did not help, nor did using AC power. I pressed the reset button to no avail.

I'm going to have to take in for repair, aren't I?

Thanks.

I also am having the same issues, I cannot access the menu in camera mode, I cannot turn off the camera sometimes, and I cannot change the Counter settings....

This is really weird...?

Any answers...?

I also tried updating the software, that worked fine, but the problems persisted...

HELP!

this problem has been reported here - the camera will have to go to the shop.

This just happened to me today. Crapola. When I turn the camera on, it immediately goes to record and I can only stop it by removing the battery. The record buttons do not work. I tried powering on without a P2 card in it and it started fine, but I now it won't start recording.

I see it's not uncommon. Guess I'll contact Panasonic since it's under warranty. But this really throws a wrench in things. Do they offer loner cams while repairs are happening? How long is the wait time?

All I can say is...ugh.

I had the exact problems . I had a 4yr. Mac warranty in New Jersy ,fixwd for no charge.
I waited THREE MONTHS to get it back.,then when I did get the camera back everything worked except I had zoom creep. The autozoom when tight goes wide automatically. If I
hold the toggle half way I can stop it but Ive learned to live with it instead of waiting
another three months! Buy a Mac warranty if buying new!!!!!

Get ready to send it out. sorry to hear.........

i had a similar problem with a rental hvx a few months ago. once you started recording, the only way to stop was to yank the battery, then you had to repower and go in and do a repair clip to fix what you just shot...

Have all these issues been with the original 200s or also with the 200a model?

We are considering picking up another HVX (used) and just curious if this is something that creeps up or happens without warning? Also, if it's relegated only to the original model?

Thanks...seemed like alot of issues fairly quickly...until I read the post dates:)

I don't think I've heard any reports of it happening on the 200A...

my brother has the same camera and is now having the same problems!!!!! Is Panasonic aware
of this function problem, to purchase this camera only to find out they didnt work out this flaw should be brought to their attention and repaired for free.....

i second that . it's clearly a defect from factory .

my camera has less than 100 hours .

my camera is at the shop now

check some other threads ,
and try to hit REC CHK button a few times. it may help..
