Hi all,
I'm trying to transcode/import AVCHD files from the HMC150 into final cut . When I open the Log & Transfers window, Final Cut crashes and shuts down.
My Mac, running OX 10.5.5 operating system without Perian installed.
Has anyone have any help/suggestions please?
Thanks!

Which version of FCP are you using and what kind of footage (1080i/p, 720p) are you trying to import?

I am using 6.0.5 and 1080p30 footage...

Interesting, updating from OSX 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 resoled the crash in Log & Transfer. Great news.
On another note, when previewing clips in log and transfer, they do not play down smooth. I have a fairly new and fast mac so I confused as to why this could be. Any ideas guys? Thanks!

One thought: disable or remove Perian, if you have it installed (check your System Preferences panel). It can play merry hell with AVCHD in Final Cut.
Preview of clips is usually OK, but you're asking your Mac to play back high-bitrate AVCHD on the fly, which is something Final Cut doesn't really do as yet - hence Log & Transfer, which transcodes to ProRes. The resulting ProRes footage should play smoothly, as long as your drives can keep up.
It's also possible, incidentally, that your SD card reader is running at USB1 speeds rather than USB2. If possible, plug it directly into a USB socket on your Mac.

Unfortunately, I am having this problem as well - except it is happening on 10.5.6 and fcp 6.0.5 ... you are lucky the update fixed your problem. I just set things up on this system and is a brand new, fresh install.
Log & Transfer causes crash... BSOD (beachball spinner of death) and then quit and it says FCP unexpectedly quit. The error under the report says:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000005
Crashed Thread: 0
Any ideas?

Is Perian installed?
Are you actually getting a kernel panic?
If so, it may be RAM

No Kernel Panic - just quits with an error.
Perian IS installed - does this affect that? If so, why?
RAM - hmm, shouldn't be, I have never had any problem anywhere else, even under heavy RAM utilization and dual booting windows.

OK, I app-zapped Perian and rebooted. No change.

Did you ever figure out the issue here?
I just got a GH1 and I am trying to import AVCHD movies through FCE, and it crashes during the add to queue operation.
I have OSX 10.5.8 and FCE4.0. movies are 720p60

ok, scrap that.
i upgraded to FCE 4.0.1 and the crash went away.
i still had the problem that it failed to import though. Then I changed audio import options to "plain stereo" as i've seen in another forum and it fixed the problem.
cool :)

I think the easiest fastest way to transfer (for me anyways) has been with iMovie.
One on my computer just drag the quicktime files into Final Cut

This will limit you to AIC, which is not nearly as robust as pro res. Also know 24p

How can I tell if you have Perian installed, don't see it in sys prefs.

Woot - update to 6.0.6 fixed it!!
I'm not use to an update actually doing something (pc's).

the 6.0.5 update fixed log and transfer with the HMC150.
