Hi everyone.

I recently got into super 8 after a class project required us to use it and the results inspired me to continue to work at it and get better at crafting the images I get out of it. I have searched high and low for good concise info on good labs and good prices but it is hard to find any real info. Theres just a lot of info spread very thin.

Anyway, when we got our film back from school we got our developed film back, and a miniDV of the footage. After so much searching I couldn't really find info on labs that did this and at what price.

My TA tells me they used a lab in New York called Pac-lab, but their website does not yield any info except contact information, after e-mailing them I have yet to hear back.

So can anyone share some info on good labs to use for the same service (film and miniDV of it), and good pricing info/website where I can find said info? I use Kodak B+W reversal stock #7266.

I thank you all in advance and I look forward to some good replies.

Pro8mm in Burbank California. It will blow your mind. They have everything the modern 8mm filmmaker would ever want.

Alpha Cine in Seattle is the best small format lab. They are also well known for their reversal processing.

Hi Ghalib:

Go here and check the "Super 8" check box for search. All will be revealed.

I am going to respectfully disagree with Ryan about Pro8mm.

While it's true that Pro8mm has tons of super8 stocks to choose from their customer service sucks royal. Over on the cinematography.com forum this lab has horror stories about untested recans, poor color transfers, and failure to safely mail back film to the customer. I actually have a friend who lost his whole music video because Pro8mm developed the film in the wrong chemicals..

That being said I will most likely buy my film though them seeing as how they are the only ones I know of in the Southern California area who packs Kodak Vision2 50D into super8. But I am sure not getting the film developed there.

Check out http://www.spectrafilmandvideo.com/ amazing customer service, really A+. The transfers I get back from them are amazing. In fact I'm getting ready to place a order from them for a Lossfest entry. Also, when you get a telecine from them they will process Pro8mm stocks for free. Can't beat that.

Thank you everyone for your input. I, too, have heard horror stories about pro8mm, but when I emailed thay seemed pretty interested in my business, which is more than I can say for some other places.

I'm thinking about just getting the filmed developed and nixing the miniDV transfer, it is pretty costly. After two transfers I could just get a projector and use my DVX as a transfer device. OF course, then I would lose some quality... I don't know. I may have bit off a little more than I can chew here...

Time to start saving...

For strictly transfers try: http://www.framediscreet.com/. Your US money goes a lot further in Canada.
