The Mark2 firmware upgrade was released.. not a hint of 24p to go around..
I guess we have to keep dreaming

The photographers seem to have priority here, obviously, which makes sense I guess.

Maybe they don't want to chip off their prosumer video department.

When do Canon usually do a press release for the likes of XH-A1?

I think that was pretty much expected that this was only dealing with the black dot issue.

Is Canon just plain stupid? Didn't they get an assload of requests for 24p?

I think it's getting clearer that it's either very difficult/impossible to get manual controls over Liveview in the current implementation of the technology, or they simply don't want to do that.

It cannot be beneficial to a company to hold back on that unless it's hard to do it, or they plan on future models with enhanced functionality down the road... But maybe they really are just plain stupid, in the sense they cannot understand what those features mean to every videographer... After all, they are historically serving another market.

I believe that sometimes it's not that things are difficult or that they are stupid. They are, maybe, scared to bring out something so wonderful that would take a lot of other products out of the market, theirs and other's... THAT'S DANGEROUS!

Well if the russians hack it like they did for my other Canon DSLR firmware, that would possibly get us some more control.

Well, now, shouldn't it be easier to hack the firmware since its out? I know that firmware hacks often encounter their most substantial roadblock in getting a copy of the firmware itself. After that its just decompiling (no small task I realize), recoding and breaking any security checksum or whatever, right?

So, essentially, Canon has helped with the first step towards a hacked firmware, since now its available outside of the camera.

Lets hope so. I can't see why not. The Mark II has gotten so popular quickly that the demand for just manual control enabled would be awesome.

PEOPLE !

If you want to see the hack happen, pledge some cash here, no need to hand over any money, it is just a promise that if someone delivers 24p/manual (or whatever) we will throw them a few dollars each.

So far it is at $2,490

I have a suggestion: why not to enter in touch with skilled people in order to notice them about the offer? Eventually, let the hacker make the price as goal amount?

I think there was thread on cinema5d where a dude broke down exactly how hard it would be to actually hack the canon... you'd have to have a group of people who could write code at a very high level, working thousands of hours, and also a bunch of actual cameras they were all willing to 'brick' if things didn't work...

By these factors... I see a gloomy future... but you never know..
